These Android and iOS builds will crash your apps more often

These Android and iOS builds will crash your apps more oftenA recent study of 20,000 apps reveals which Android and iOS builds are more likely to crash your apps. Those sporting a device powered by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) are most likely to see the app they are using suddenly stop working. According to the study, this happens about 2.62% of the time. Android 4.4 (KitKat) is close behind with apps likely to crash at a 2.47% rate. Apps on Android crash on average 2.5% of the time. While it is early, Android 5.0 apps have been crashing at a below average 2% rate.

The study also reveals that apps running on iOS 8 crash 2.14% of the time. That is down from the 2.31% rate that iOS 8 users experienced about a month ago. But it is higher than the rather steady 2% crash rate that iOS 7 users have had to live with.

Apps crash for a variety of reasons, some of which have to do with software glitches and some are related to hardware issues. Sometimes the problem can be boiled down to an issue with a specific device. But in the scheme of things, we are only talking about an extra crash or three out of 1,000 times an app is loaded on a phone.
